Jay Z - Jay-z Calls Glastonbury Headlining Furore Ridiculous

Jay-Z hae expressed his exasperation at the criticism of his headline slot at Glastonbury Festival.

The Roc-A-Fella star is to play the Pyramid stage at the legendary festival on Saturday June 28th but his booking has been cited as the reason for slower ticket sales for this year's event.

But speaking to BBC Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood, Jay-Z - real name Shawn Carter - called the criticism of his headlining slot from the likes of Oasis' Noel Gallagher "ridiculous".

"If we don't embrace what is new, then how do we progress?" he asked.

"I've never actually experienced anything like that before," he continued.

"It's 2008, what is that about? That's such old school thinking, that's not even how the world thinks anymore. So I was really taken aback [by the criticism]."

While artists such as Get Cape.Wear Cape.Fly, Dizzee Rascal and the Guillemots have lent their support to Jay-Z's headline slot, arguing that the best rapper in the world should perform at the musical festival renowned as the best on the planet, Gallagher said a hip-hop artist was "wrong" for the festival.

But Jay-Z argued that dividing artists into genres is counter-productive.

"These barriers that they have are only put up there to separate us," he said.

"They are there so people have a way of filing the music but that's not the way kids today listen to music.

"I listen to all types of music and that's what should happen, that's what the world should be about, mixing culture.

"There's only good music and bad music."

Ramsay smashes swear jar at magazine launch

Gordon Ramsay almost made it through his first Australian press conference without swearing.

That was, until he dropped the large swear jar he'd just been presented with to help curb his potty mouth.

"Oh shit," he muttered, as the glass bottle smashed on the ground.

"F*** me."

The 41-year-old British television chef was the special guest at the launch of the BBC Australian Good Food magazine at the Sydney Convention Centre.

He has come under fire from a Senate committee which has proposed changes to broadcasting standards thanks to his expletive-ridden outbursts.

Liberal Senator Cory Bernardi complained one episode of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares contained "the F-word" 80 times in its 40 minutes.

During his official speech, Ramsay was on his best behaviour, and blamed the Nine Network for screening his shows uncensored at an early hour.

"I'd like to give Channel Nine a big telling off for making my name bad in Australia," Ramsay told the packed room.

"Has no-one got an edit suite and not broadcasting those naughty words before nine o'clock?

"I'm getting the flack for it everywhere I go. I'm not a broadcaster."

Ramsay, who will be a contributing editor on the new magazine, showed off his cheeky side by revealing the secret launch date of the magazine, and taking a dig at competing foodie magazine Delicious.

"Competition's healthy. We should never fear competition, yes?" he said.

"Delicious are doing exceptionally well, they've had the most amazing run, and now it's time to squash the competition.

"First of August is a big bumper issue."

The notoriously hard-to-please chef also gave the thumbs up to the food served at the event.

"I hope you enjoy the canapes," he said.

"I dare say they are delicious - that was meant in the right term."

But all his self-control came undone when food writer Lyndey Milan presented him a special gift.

"We're not all wowsers, we do sometimes swear," Milan said.

"So mate, this is a great Aussie tradition, it's a swear jar.

"Every time you swear, you've got to put something in there - money."

The swear jar lasted less than 20 seconds.

Ramsay was exceedingly apologetic about the incident, blaming his "sweaty palms".

But let's face it, it probably wouldn't have worked anyway.

The East Coast post-grunge/pop-punk outfit Good Charlotte was founded in 1996 by monovular brothers Joel and Benji Madden. Inspired by a Beastie Boys carrying into action on their 1995 Ill Communication circuit, the Maddens enlisted the help of respective high schooling classmates in collecting a band that combined the up-and-coming elements spawned from '70s kindling with the soppy ballads of mainstream corporate rock-and-roll. Good Charlotte was before long formed, with Joel Madden handling tip vocals and Benji Madden playing tip guitar. Paul Thomas (bass) and Aaron Escolopio (drums) realised the early lineup, patch Billy Martin later on coupled as a second guitar player.

Although the band hailed from the suburban township of Waldorf, MA, Good Charlotte speedily made a describe for itself in nearby Washington, D.C., playing the WHFS yearbook rock show HFSFestival in 1998 and 1999. A year by and by, the band issued its spunky self-titled debut on Epic, and the single "Little Things" made minor waves. The Madden brothers scored a gig as MTV VJs and before long were all over the network's late-night john Rock testify All Things Rock, which gave their band's profile a boost. The two exhausted clock time slow the scenes piece of writing songs for their sophomore album, but Escolopio left hand the group to join his sidekick in Wakefield before recording could start. Josh Freese was speedily enlisted as the band's irregular drummer (Chris Wilson would later on supersede him permanently). By the settle of 2002, Good Charlotte was quick to release The Young and the Hopeless, and their expanded interview was ready. Singles "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" and "Anthem" catapulted the band into the mainstream in 2003 and finally swarm the record album into triple-platinum gross revenue; shared dates with New Found Glory for the third gear yearbook Honda Civic Tour were equally successful.

In 2004, Good Charlotte returned with The Chronicles of Life and Death, which stumble number three on the Billboard charts simply failed to trade as comfortably as the band's previous album. Wilson exited the band in mid-2005, citing health reasons, and afterward went on to join the Summer Obsession. Dean Butterworth (world Health Organization had previously drummed for Morrissey, among others) joined up in time for sessions for the crew's fourth album, which were held in Vancouver and away from the Madden-loving paparazzi (particularly Joel and his then-girlfriend Hilary Duff). The much more varied Good Morning Revival appeared in late March 2007, spearheaded by the individual "The River," which featured M. Shadows and Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold.
